It was a beautiful mid winters July day that marked the official opening of the new MTB Skills Area and the Friends of Hunua Ranges group.
The Auckland Mountain Bike Club and Friends of Hunua Ranges group set up tents at the new Skills Area which is right next to the Parking Area and Campground at the foot of the Mangatawhiri Dam in Moumoukai Valley.
Riders of all ages checked out the various features of the Skills Area, honing their skills and trying to bedazzle those in charge of the cool spot prizes supplied thanks to the fine folks at Cycle City Manukau.

The Skills Area comprises of variety of tricky features that help riders new and experienced alike to develop their skills, preparing them for some of the technical single track riding that exists down in the Moumoukai Valley trail network.
Kids can spend hours scooting around the MTB Skills Area with it's many features.

Higher risk tracks in the Hunua Ranges Regional Park are closed from 1 May 2018.
A number of higher risk tracks in the Hunua Ranges Regional Park are closed. A Controlled Area Notice (CAN)* is in place across the forested areas of the Hunua Ranges as well as the Waharau Regional Park.
