Help Keep Kauri Standing in Your Backyard

Higher risk tracks in the Hunua Ranges Regional Park are closed from 1 May 2018.

A number of higher risk tracks in the Hunua Ranges Regional Park are closed. A Controlled Area Notice (CAN)* is in place across the forested areas of the Hunua Ranges as well as the Waharau Regional Park.

SCRUB | SPRAY | STAY on the track

We have taken this action to protect against kauri dieback disease, while still enabling some managed use of the park.

All footwear and equipment must be free of soil before entering the park, and any cleaning station encountered must be used.
There are still some open tracks for you to enjoy, however you must follow the requirements of the CAN*.

Remember to SCRUB, SPRAY all footwear and equipment and STAY on the open tracks

What is a Controlled Area Notice (CAN)?

*A CAN has been put in place by the Ministry of Primary Industries.
People who carry visible soil into the Controlled Area on footwear and other equipment may commit an offence under the Biosecurity Act.
This means you must:
- arrive with clean footwear and equipment
- use all hygiene stations encountered.
Compliance officers will monitor track entrances and exits to ensure that this standard is met.

Auckland Council has been working alongside the Ministry of Primary Industries and mana whenua to tackle this complex and challenging issue.
